Who is this guide for? Students and parents considering hospitality, hotel management, tourism, culinary arts, international business or business administration studies in Switzerland who want to compare schools objectively and make the best possible decision.

If you are considering studying hospitality, business, or hotel management in Switzerland, one of the first decisions you will face is surprisingly simple:

Should you contact the university directly, or should you first speak to an independent school representative?

Many students automatically go directly to the university website, fill out a contact form, and wait for a call from admissions.

While this approach certainly works, there are several important reasons why speaking to an independent representative first can significantly improve your experience and, in some cases, even your outcome and future.

Swiss Hospitality Schools Are Businesses

Swiss hospitality schools are excellent institutions, but they are also businesses with strong marketing departments.

Once you start researching them online, you will likely notice their advertisements appearing repeatedly across your Google and social media. If you leave your phone number or email on their website, an admissions representative will usually contact you quickly.

This naturally raises an important question:

So why should you consult an independent Swiss hospitality representative before speaking directly with the schools?

The answer lies in understanding the difference between a university employee and an independent representative.

University employees are responsible for recruiting students to their own institution. Their role is to discourage you from considering other options, promote exclusively their own school and make sure to “close you” so that they achieve their enrollment targets.

Instead of simply trying to close you, an independent representative like myself, on the other hand, will advise you: thus helping you compare multiple schools objectively and identify the option that best matches your goals, talents, personality, and budget.

So Why Would You Want to Miss Out on This Unique Free Consultation Opportunity That Will Allow You to See ALL YOUR OPTIONS, Not Just One?

University representatives and outside partners usually work with multiple institutions which pay us either a representative fee or a commission. This means that we usually don’t charge students for our services — or at least I definitely don’t. In the case of Swiss Study Work and Magic Mentor Silvia, you as a student don’t pay anything to me, as my fees are included in your all-inclusive tuition. So why don’t you just let Swiss business and hospitality schools pay me for your info session and representation and get as much info and guidance from me as your situation (and heart) desires!

But be careful!

Many students do not realize that once they register themselves directly with a university, we independent representatives often lose the ability to officially represent them during the admissions process.

This can have consequences.

In a nutshell: Admissions staff are naturally focused on their own institution. They are unlikely to recommend competing schools that may actually be a better fit for you.

An independent representative can evaluate several universities at the same time and help you make a fully informed decision and support you all the way until your graduation.

The Difference Between Being a Student and Being One of Hundreds

Most Swiss hospitality schools have hundreds of students.

As a result, admissions teams often simply do not have the capacity to properly get to know and build a deep personal relationship with every applicant.

A representative often can. For me, my students are like my children; I even refer to them as such. I like to joke that I’m a happy mom of 350+ children by now :)

By the time you attend your admissions interview, your representative will already know your strengths, weaknesses, ambitions, concerns, financial situation, and family circumstances.

This knowledge can be invaluable during the application process, as we are usually the ones who brief the interviewers about the applicants before the interview.

Support also extends beyond admissions.

Representatives can often help students prepare for their move to Switzerland, arrange campus visits, navigate accommodation issues, and provide guidance during internships.

For parents, having a trusted person who understands their child's situation can be especially reassuring.

Scholarships and Negotiation

Another benefit is scholarship support.

University employees are generally responsible for helping their institution achieve financial targets.

Independent representatives work differently.

Because they maintain relationships with multiple schools, they can often compare offers and encourage institutions to provide the strongest possible package for qualified applicants.

This does not guarantee scholarships.

However, it does mean that students have someone advocating for their interests throughout the process.

When Might You Not Need a Representative?

To be fair, there are situations where you may not need a representative at all.

Perhaps you have already completed extensive research.

You know exactly which school you want to attend, you are applying to only one institution, and you have no interest in comparing alternatives.

You may also be financially comfortable enough that scholarships are not important to you.

Perhaps you prefer handling every aspect of the process yourself — from applications and interviews to moving abroad and solving problems independently.

In those situations, a representative may not be necessary.

However, even highly independent students sometimes discover that having an experienced local contact becomes extremely valuable when unexpected challenges arise in a completely new country. So why do it all alone, when there is someone who could be there for you 24/7 and free of charge for you?

Why I Could Be the Right Representative for You

My name is Silvia, and I have been working with Swiss universities for more than ten years.

I have personally lived in Switzerland and speak two of Switzerland's official languages: German and French. In addition, I also speak English, Spanish, Hungarian, and Bulgarian on a native level.

Today, I work with a total of 7 of the world's TOP 10 hospitality and business schools, which happen to be located in Switzerland.

This allows me to offer students a broad range of options and genuinely independent advice.

How did this happen? I have three passions in my life: helping people succeed through mentoring, tourism and business. As such, in addition to my successful higher education consultancy Magic Mentor, I am also a certified Dubai tour guide and the owner of a successful Dubai-based tour company. I met the admissions officer of Business Hotel Management School 13 years ago as a tour guide who was looking for a representative for his region for BHMS, so when I told him about my mentoring company, he invited me to work with them. The rest is history, as when seeing my successes and many happy students, the other big names like Glion, Les Roches (Sommet Education Group) and HIM, SHMS and César Ritz (Swiss Education Group) also invited me to represent them. Since I’m not a salesperson and I strongly believe in transparency, honesty, personalized advice and the freedom of choice, I’ve managed to stay independent and as balanced as possible by not siding just with one institution, but sending the students to the best possible options tailor-made for them. As a bonus, my tourism experience gives me practical hospitality and business experience that complements my work with students — which is perhaps why I have a 95%+ application success rate and rating by students.

CONNECTIONS, CONNECTIONS AND EVEN MORE CONNECTIONS

Over the years, I have developed strong relationships with Swiss business and hotel management school employees and working or even close friendships with admissions officers that go way beyond just being colleagues. This means that I know exactly who to call if one of my students has a problem — and they usually pick up and help resolve it as soon as possible.

Why? What’s in It for the Schools Working with Representatives?

The role of representatives goes way beyond recruitment and fair participation. We take off the task of day-to-day contact and problem solving with applicants and/or their parents (often in their native language). We help manage documents. We go to the embassies with students to get their visas, if needed. We pick up the phone at 11 pm if necessary, when official school employees’ working hours are over, to fix emergencies. We are the first points of contact and fixers for the students and their families and the last bastions of support for our university colleagues, should conflicts arise with students that they can’t fix themselves.

In addition, I have managed to build a reputation for working with and recommending only serious, high-potential candidates who usually then become top students, success stories and alumni to be proud of. This cultivated trust and respect towards me and my judgment from my university colleagues helps me advocate effectively for my students.

More importantly, I genuinely want to get to know every student I work with.

I deliberately keep the number of students I support limited each year because I believe that personalized guidance leads to better outcomes.

My goal is not simply to place students into schools.

My goal is to help people build successful and fulfilling lives.

I will help you identify the schools that genuinely match your ambitions, talents, finances, and priorities.

The final decision will always remain yours.

I do not push students toward any particular institution.

Instead, I prefer to identify several strong options, submit applications strategically, compare the outcomes, and then help students choose the best opportunity available.

A Little-Known Advantage: School Transfers

One fact that many students do not know is that changing institutions during your studies can sometimes be possible and beneficial. In the case of Swiss business and hospitality schools, one transfer per degree is allowed.

Some students choose to transfer to a stronger or more highly ranked institution later in their academic journey.

Others simply discover that a different environment would suit them better.

An independent representative can help evaluate these possibilities and support students throughout the process.

University employees rarely discuss such options because their responsibility is naturally focused on their own institution.

Real Student Journeys

These real student journeys show why personal support can matter before, during and even after the admissions process.

Ernő from Hungary: The Full Circle Story

BHMS graduate Ernő Tatar from Hungary becoming a lecturer at BHMS Switzerland
From BHMS student in 2016 to BHMS lecturer in 2026: Ernő's remarkable ten-year journey.

When I first met Ernő in Budapest in 2015, he was considering studying psychology.

The more we spoke, the more convinced I became that hospitality was a better fit for his personality. He was highly ambitious, great with people, and thrived on variety and new challenges. Back then he still had blue rasta dreads and was a huge fan of gangster rap.

He enrolled at BHMS in 2016.

During his studies, tragedy struck when he lost his father.

Together with my colleagues at BHMS, we supported him through one of the most difficult periods of his life.

He persevered, graduated successfully, and fast-forward ten years to 2026, he eventually joined BHMS as a lecturer himself.

Today, he helps students navigate both academic and personal challenges — just as others once helped him.

Theodora from Hungary: The Alternative Foodie Success Story

Hungarian BHMS graduate Theodora building a successful career in Switzerland
From scholarship student in 2016 to a successful technology professional in Switzerland in 2026.

Theodora came from a family facing severe financial hardship.

Her mother was raising four children alone while dealing with serious health issues and disability.

Despite these challenges, Theodora was an outstanding applicant. She spoke perfect German and already had work experience.

I helped secure scholarship support and a flexible payment arrangement that made studying in Switzerland possible at BHMS.

After arriving, new challenges emerged due to specific dietary and medical requirements.

Working together with the school, we successfully introduced alternative meal options for students with special dietary needs — which wasn’t really such a huge thing as it is now, so I consider it a big achievement for which many students are now grateful.

Today, ten years later, Theodora remains in Switzerland, has built a successful career, and enjoys the prosperity she has managed to build after graduation — a huge upgrade from the reality she grew up with.

Iva from Bulgaria: The Smoking Hot Story

BHMS hospitality students during classroom learning and practical training
Iva's student journey at BHMS, from classroom learning to practical hospitality experience.

Iva was one of BHMS’s star students. Smart, pretty and hard-working — the perfect poster girl who appeared in many promotional materials.

Everything seemed to be going perfectly until a summer internship in Dubai became significantly more difficult than expected. In the heat of the summer desert sun and with sometimes up to 12 hours of daily work, Iva’s mental health deteriorated significantly.

Then one day she was caught on security cameras lighting up a cigarette while working at the reception — personally, a serious disciplinary issue, which led to her firing. Broke and ashamed to tell her parents what happened, Iva called me to help her get back to Europe, so I bought her a low-cost Wizz Air ticket to get back home and managed to convince the otherwise furious and embarrassed internship colleagues at BHMS to give Iva another chance and fix her B permit visa, so that she could apply for internships in Switzerland in order to get the required practical credits to finish her year.

Iva returned home temporarily, we sat down with her parents to admit what happened, they very gratefully paid me back for the ticket, we regrouped, and eventually secured Iva a new internship opportunity in Switzerland.

Today, she is continuing her study journey successfully at BHMS and is about to graduate.

Wengyi from China: The Unexpected Gift

Chinese student Wengyi and her family celebrating educational success
Wengyi and her family during a reunion after her successful admission and academic journey.

Wengyi faced a different challenge.

Her English was extremely limited when she applied to Les Roches Marbella.

Many people would have considered her chances slim.

Instead, I prepared her extensively for the admissions process, helped her write her application essay, practiced interview questions, and focused on helping her demonstrate her potential.

She was admitted. Her family was so grateful that her mother gave me a very special and unexpected gift: she cooked and vacuum-packed for me the specialty of her village back in China.

Within months, her English improved dramatically.

She eventually completed not one but two degrees at Les Roches Marbella and remains one of the success stories I remember most fondly.

Final Thoughts

Choosing a university is one of the most important decisions you will make.

The right school can open doors, build confidence, create opportunities, and change the trajectory of your life.

Whether you choose to work with me or another trusted representative, my advice is simple:

Do not make the decision alone.

Gather information, compare options, ask difficult questions, and make sure you fully understand both the opportunities and the challenges ahead.

As for me, my role is simple.

From our first conversation — whether on Zoom or over a coffee — to your graduation and often beyond, I aim to help you make the best possible decisions for your future.

Because success is not about getting you into a particular school.

Success is about building together the best possible life and career you truly want and were destined for.

Success Stories from Swiss Hospitality Schools

Real student experiences often provide the clearest insight into what studying hospitality and business in Switzerland can achieve. The journeys of Ernő, Theodora, Iva, and Wengyi demonstrate how personalized mentoring, scholarship support, internship guidance, and long-term career planning can help students overcome challenges and build successful international careers.

Whether students come from financially challenging backgrounds, face academic obstacles, struggle during internships, or simply need guidance navigating an unfamiliar country, the right support network can make a significant difference.

These stories also illustrate an important reality of Swiss hospitality education: success is not determined by where you start, but by your willingness to learn, adapt, and persevere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Swiss hospitality school representatives charge students?

Usually not. In most cases, representatives are compensated directly by their partner universities. This means students can receive guidance, application support, school comparisons, interview preparation, and ongoing assistance without paying additional fees.

Can a representative help me obtain a scholarship?

While no scholarship can ever be guaranteed, experienced representatives can often help identify scholarship opportunities, compare offers between institutions, and ensure that strong candidates present the strongest possible application.

What happens if I contact a Swiss hospitality school directly?

Once you register yourself directly with a school, independent representatives may no longer be able to officially represent you during the admissions process. This can limit the support available regarding scholarships, applications, interviews, campus visits, and ongoing student assistance.

Can a representative help me during my studies and internship?

Yes. Many representatives continue supporting students long after enrollment. This may include advice regarding accommodation, internships, visas, transfers, personal challenges, and communication with university departments.

Can I transfer between Swiss hospitality schools?

In many cases, yes. Swiss hospitality and business schools often allow one transfer during a degree program. An experienced representative can help evaluate whether a transfer would benefit your academic goals, career prospects, or overall student experience.

How do I know which Swiss hospitality school is right for me?

The best school depends on your personality, career goals, budget, academic background, language skills, and preferred learning environment. This is precisely where an experienced representative can help by comparing multiple institutions and identifying the strongest options for your specific situation.
